Why we moved to Unexpected Bookkeeper

The Beginning

When I moved back to Karratha in September 2024, I was doing fortnightly calls for Elevation Training.

We had had a few people join but only one consistent client.  I was wondering how we could make it better and was thinking of expanding to other things and making the library even better! I kept thinking “what’s the no brainer that will get them to sign up?”

I still loved doing the work – delivering the content, talking to clients and helping them. But it felt like it was time for a change, or a tweak. I wasn’t sure what was missing but I began to be open to changing things up.

Within the first few weeks of being in Karratha, I attended 2 lots of training - both about knowing your customer and what they want and being able to speak directly to them. I loved doing Elevation Training, but I wanted to reach more people and more families. I had a lot of deep truths to think about after all this training, about what I wanted my training to do, who I wanted to help, and how.

After an intense week, Unexpected Bookkeeper was created.

It offers less than what Elevation Training did, but it’s more niched and for a specific type of person - the tradie wife or new business owner who hasn’t done any finance training before.  In this way it became less overwhelming for attendees too, and easier to talk about.

Unexpected Bookkeeper also has the hidden benefit of being the first business coach they didn’t know they needed, teaching profit first methodology and strategies along with Xero bookkeeping basics and advanced reporting skills. Women often find themselves in the role without any training, and often there’s an initial hesitation because finances are not that easy to get passionate about.

It’s such a valuable part of the business though – and it can be exciting and interesting to be such an integral part of a business.

Six Months Later

Since then, we have set up a new website, soft launched the program, got 2 new clients, and are running weekly sessions again! For online courses, this is an incredible launch!

The set price for lifetime access is a great selling point, and videos on demand are helpful for clients to access help in between calls. The face to face sessions are always fun and engaging, and I stay online until everyone’s questions are answered. I’m often hopping into Xero to share screens and show rather than tell you the answer to your question.  The next six months are going to be incredible. I can’t wait to keep building the community and helping out people who need more support with their business finances.
